Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis

"A non-restricted fluid body is what we are trying to create"

-Juliu Horvath (inventor of Gyrotonic)

Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis exercises use simple breath patterns and the natural spiraling movements of the body to harmoniously stretch, strengthen, increase range of motion, coordination and balance in the body. GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® were developed by Juliu Horvath. The motion concept includes the most important elements of yoga, dance and tai chi, systematically and gently training joints and muscles through rhythmic wavelike movements. The spine is considered the central supporting element and gains new flexibility through the harmonic wavelike, spiral and circular movements. The corresponding breathing patterns stimulate the nervous system and open up and stimulate the natural energy systems in the body.

Gyrotonic Exercises utilize a specially designed pulley tower system which offers uniform three-dimensional support and resistance. Built around the human body with attention to freedom of movement, the support system of the pulley tower offers consistent resistance to develop strength, spatial support and awareness in the body. Gyrotonic exercises mobilize the spine and all of the systems of the body, allowing muscle groups to work together to move the body with ease, efficiency, and fluidity.

In a Gyrokinesis class you will move your body through a series of arch, curl, spiral, side bend and wave patterns. Seated on low stools, lying on the floor and standing, exercises are linked with breath patterns and work the entire body mobilizing joints, strengthening the core and stimulating the cardio-vascular system. The complete training program is done without any training machines so the acquired exercises can be partially repeated at home or at work to relax the body from one-sided working positions.People of all ages and different lifestyles benefit by this method, from therapy to high performance training for competitive athletes.

Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis sessions are available with Dawn in Private and Semi-Private, and Small Group Classes.

Benefits

    • Develop strength and flexibility based in ease and efficiency of movement
    • mobilize the spine with three-dimensional movement
    • expand range of movement and increase coordination
    • increase fluid circulation thru aerobic and cardiovascular stimulation, circulation of blood, lymph, breath and energy in the body.
    • Prevent and rehabilitate injuries
    • Relieve lower back pain and other chronic pain conditions
    • Keep the body agile and fluid during the aging process
    • Experience freedom and joy in movement

Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis can also be used therapeutically to

    • Work with particular conditions of the spine and the neuromuscular system.
    • For more information about particular applications to scoliosis, chronic pain and other conditions please contact Dawn.

“ The ultimate aim is to be at home in one's body, experience greater freedom of movement, to feel unrestricted and uninhibited, to be free from pain, to be one with the nature of oneself, and to experience exercise as a creative and delightful experience”

    - Juliu Horvath
